“Joy and exhilaration are palpable in opening footage of hundreds of same-sex couples receiving a pronouncement of ‘spouses for life’ in San Francisco in 2004. Seven couples communicate their deep love and commitment to one another in discussions about the significance of marriage and practical consequences of their relationships, which exclude them from marital rights accorded to heterosexual couples. Archival civil rights and suffragette protest footage and rally speech clips supplement the interviews, illustrating that marriage equality is a basic human-rights issue. Comic Margaret Cho’s proclamation, ‘Love is love is love is ...’ brings home the message of this thought-provoking film... this is a valuable program for offering a unique, personal slant on a controversial issue. ”
